RADCLIFFE Borough boss Kevin Glendon believes he may be able to boost his squad by the middle of January as they bid to stave off a relegation dogfight in the Evo-Stik First Division North.

Boro have just one win in seven matches and lie perilously in the bottom two after a 6-0 defeat to Cammel Laird last week. They may be one point off rivals Wakefield but Glendon believes the players have to put the loss behind them and bounce back.

He said: “At the end of the day, the 6-0 defeat was a scoreline that was not enjoyable for anybody (including) the supporters, the players and the management team. “I thought the penalty was a bit harsh and we actually had some good opportunities in the game.

“We gave away a few goals and Bevan Burey’s sending off made it harder.

“But at 11.15am on Saturday morning, James Green, Jade Parker and Kenna Ngoma contacted me to say that they were not able to play. “That is a difficult situation because you have to swap things around.”

The Stainton Park outfit travelled to Salford City on New Year’s Day but Glendon admits they are battling on to try to rise up the table.

He said: “We are lacking the strength in depth and quality that can help us out.

“There is no point in making changes for changes sake and bringing in players if they are not of a better quality and will not improve us. “We are on one of the smallest budgets in the division but we knew that was the situation when we started and we agreed to do it.

“Recruiting is very difficult but hopefully some of our contacts will allow us to take some players in the middle of January.”

As a result of late changes on the morning of games Glendon admits they are having to take it ‘each game as it comes’ starting with the trip to Mossley on Saturday.

He said: “We played Mossley earlier this season and it was a typical story of our season. “We played well and were 2-0 up then we had a player sent-off and with 18 minutes to go we were 3-2 down. “Then we equalised but we are conceding goals late in the games.

“But the Mossley match is a really good chance to get some points. “We need to be picking up wins against the teams around us and I think that could be one of the four or five wins to stay away from relegation.”

Glendon thinks two in-form players can help boost their chances of beating the drop.

He said: “Richard Wright has been really good since he arrived from Fleetwood while our striker Bradley Robinson has been banging in the goals.

“But they are both young and we all have got to be strong to get out of this.”
