Radcliffe Borough 2 Prescot Cables 2

Radcliffe Borough started their first evening kick off of the year at Stainton Park under brighter than normal floodlights, after essential work had been carried out.

Boro were on the attack from the first minute of their Evo-Stik Division One North fixture when Dave Sherlock shot from the edge of the box, with former Boro goalkeeper Nick Culkin producing a good save.

Chris Cheetham made two good saves before Chris Thompson opened the scoring for Radcliffe on 37 minutes with a 25-yard screamer into the bottom left-hand corner to give Culkin no chance.

A minute before the break Chris Cheetham made a good save from Prescott’s Robinson as Radcliffe led 1-0 at half time.

Prescott started the second half well when McCulloch’s shot went over the bar on 49 minutes.

On 63 minutes Prescott levelled the score, when following a corner, Shinks headed against the bar and Prescott’s Luke Dean followed up to level the scores.

Borough were under pressure and on 84 minutes Kusaloka curled a shot past Cheetham to put Prescott into the lead.

Radcliffe responded a minute later when from a Radcliffe throw, James Mullineux headed into the box. The ball was headed out to Sam Grimshaw who shot from 10 yards out to score the equalising goal.

Boro had Steve Howson to thank for a second half goal against Padiham at the Arbories Memorial Sports Ground on Saturday as they returned home with three valuable points.

Radcliffe almost took the lead in the sixth minute after a Bradley Robinson free-kick found the head of captain James Mullineux, but his effort was saved by Padiham keeper Shaun Davies.

Danny Lafferty had a header deflected wide for a corner and headed another effort over the bar, while Chris Cheetham made a good save at the feet of Padiham’s Danny Boyle.

Pickup, Danny Boyle, Sam Grimshaw, Simon Carden and Chris Thompson had chances to open the scoring for their respective teams early in the second half but it was Howson who grabbed the only goal of the game on the hour mark.

From 10 yards out, Howson chested the ball down and smashed a left foot volley into the top right-hand corner of the net.
