Radcliffe Borough beat Padiham by a solitary Elliot Rokka goal to move six points clear of the Evo-Stik Division One relegation places on Tuesday.

Boro made a great start and were ahead on eight minutes. Bevan Burey raced down the right wing beating two players, before crossing to Rokka who calmly put the ball into the back of the net.

Padiham responded with Spencer Jordan crossing from the right to find Kieron Pickup, but his headed effort went straight into the arms of keeper Chris Cheetham.

Burey made another good run down the right, crossing once again to Rokka, who turned his marker but shot weakly into the arms of Padiham keeper Sean Davies.

With half an hour gone, Dave Sherlock crossed the ball into the box from the right, finding Danny White but his shot hit the side netting.

Just before half time, Radcliffe had a series of chances to increase their lead. Danny Lambert put Burey through on goal, who was unable to hit the target.

Then, Danny Lafferty had a fierce drive from outside the box saved by the keeper. The ball fell to Sam Grimshaw who crossed the ball back into the box where Rokka headed the ball into the arms of Davies. Boro continued the onslaught in the second half with Lafferty heading a White freekick wide, while at the other end Lafferty made a good clearing tackle to deny Padiham substitute Daniel Boyle.

Radcliffe’s last effort on goal was a 30-yard effort from Grimshaw that went high over the bar.

On Saturday, Boro were defeated 3-0 by promotion-chasing Darlington 1883.
