A 25-yard screamer from 18-year-old Elliott Rokka ensured that Radcliffe ended their season on a high with a deserved 1-0 win against Kendal Town, writes Alan Firth.

In the opening stages, Dave Sherlock made some enterprising runs down the right and was denied a goal-scoring opportunity by a great tackle just inside Kendal’s penalty area.

With 20 minutes gone, Sherlock played a through ball to Brad Robinson who was brought down by Kendal goalkeeper Danny MacDonald.

Referee Mathew Corlett reached into his pocket and gave MacDonald a yellow card and awarded Radcliffe a penalty.

Robinson’s kick ironically produced a great one-handed save from MacDonald, who by the letter of the law, should have been shown a red card, as he was the last man when he upended Robinson.

Five minutes before the break Danny White combined well with Rokka inside the box but his shot went wide of the target and the score remained goalless at half time.

Just before the hour Bevan Burey headed on to Rokka just inside the Kendal half. Rokka turned his marker and went past three Kendal players before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the Kendal goal to give Boro a 1-0 lead.

Kendal responded quickly when substitute Michael Stringfellow shot wide after a good run down the left.

Kendal’s Danny Mitchley went close to equalising with 10 minutes remaining but his shot went wide of the post.

Robinson had a chance on 86 minutes to seal the game for Radcliffe, but his turn and shot on the edge of the penalty area went just over the bar. It was a great end to the season for Radcliffe, after winning five of their last seven games.

After the game Burey was presented with the young player of the year award and captain James Mullineux was presented with the supporters player of the year award
