RADCLIFFE Borough extended their winless run to seven matches after going down 3-1 at home to fellow relegation strugglers Brighouse Town on Saturday.

Sam Howell, who worked tirelessly all afternoon, started well but hit his shot straight at the keeper from the edge of the box after seven minutes.

Two minutes later Ryan Hall’s cross from the right was turned into his own net by Boro captain Danny Lafferty.

Brighouse doubled their lead on 16 minutes when Hall’s cross from the right was met unchallenged by Danny Hull and he headed the ball into the net past a helpless Chris Cheetham.

Jack Hindle responded with two efforts, which but both went over the bar.

Cheetham made a good double save 15 minutes before the break to keep Boro in the match.

Five minutes later Danny Lambert’s free kick from the left found Sam Cook but his effort went straight at the keeper.

But Cook reduced the arrears on the stroke of half time, finishing off a strong run with a fierce shot that went in off the post.

Cheetham was again on hand soon after the break to keep Boro within a single goal after making a good save to deny Hall, who found himself one-on-one with the Boro keeper.

As Boro pushed forward for the equaliser, Hindle had a few efforts but none were on target.

Boro made their first substitution on 57 minutes, when Elliot Rokka replaced Chris Mason.

But the home side were reduced to 10 men on 67 minutes after Alec Midimu, making his Boro debut, fouled Thomas Matthews in the box. Cheetham made a terrific full length save to deny Matthews a goal from the resulting penalty.

Hindle was replaced by Ryan Hibbert with 10 minutes left to play, but Hall wrapped the game up for Brighouse in the final minute when his shot found the back of the net after a strong run down the right.
