FORMER Ashton United chairman David Aspinall has rekindled his footballing partnership with Radcliffe Borough boss Danny Johnson by joining the board at Stainton Park.

The duo spent five successful years together at Hurst Cross culminating in a league cup triumph in 2011.

Aspinall, who's biggest achievement at Ashton was keeping the club going in a difficult time during the Marcus Hallows' injury court case in 2010, is now looking to rejuvenate the Division One North side both on and off the pitch.

The 56-year-old retired policeman, who graduated from the terraces to the boardroom at the Robins, returns to the non-league scene after an 18-month break looking to boost the off field activities at the club.

And Aspinall, who currently runs The Oaks pub in Ramsbottom, cannot wait to get started.

"When I was chairman at Ashton United, Danny was my manager. So when Bernard approached me to join him at Radcliffe it felt right," he told the Radcliffe Times.

"I like the way Danny plays his football and I know once he gets it right on the pitch I'll just need to back him up with a bit of support off the field.

"Danny has his targets on the field, mine are going to be more off the field to raise a bit more money for the club for future projects."

It is hoped with the help of local businesses the club will be able to install a turnstile block at Stainton Park and introduce a match day tea bar, two of the projects the club are keen to raise funds for in exchange for sponsorship.

And Boro already has support from a local recruitment agency.

"Daniel Adams Recruitment has just put four boards up around the ground, so it's been a great start," said Aspinall.

"The supporters are more important than anything else so we need to make them feel welcome and a tea bar will help us do that. It will also help us generate some much-needed income and really improve our match day hospitality.

"There are some great facilities at this club, it just needs a guided hand," he said.
