RADCLIFFE Borough boss Danny Johnson is urging his side to move on from the disappointment of their early cup exit by claiming their first league win of the season.

The Belvoir Stadium outfit crashed out of the Emirates FA Cup following a 3-2 reverse at AFC Liverpool in the preliminary round on Friday, despite leading 2-0 midway through the second half.

With their bank holiday fixture against Kendal Town postponed due to the Cumbria side’s involvement in a cup replay, Johnson has now turned his attentions to Evo-Stik Division One North trips to Harrogate Railway on

Saturday and basement club Prescot Cables on Tuesday.

Boro are currently third from bottom and pointless after four league defeats on the bounce and Johnson is hoping his side will rediscover their winning mentality soon.

“We’ve forgotten how to win,” he said. “We need that one point or one victory to stop the stop the rot and give us a bit of momentum.

“Both Harrogate and Prescot Cables are under new management so it may not be the best time to visit either side but hopefully we can get some points on the board.”

A brace from Tom Hulme on 48 and 52 minutes was not enough as Boro came so near but so far from progressing in the cup, and Johnson was again left to rue the strugglers’ luck.

“The scoreline shows we were well within the game again,” he said.

“It shows the bad luck we are having at the moment when they get a 93rd minute winner.

“I probably have to shoulder some of the blame with the team selection.

“When we were 2-0 up with 30 minutes to go

I probably should have

put an extra man in midfield.

“We’ve also been forced to make too many changes at the back so that’s meant it’s been a bit messy over the last few games.”

Despite the defeat, Johnson praised the performance of summer signing Hulme.

The striker, who missed the first two games of the season, made it three goals in a week following his consolation strike against Northwich Victoria.

“Tom is finding his feet at this level. He’s going to be a big player for us this season,” said his manager.

“He knows where the back of the net is and probably could have scored four or five. He took his two goals well and two away from home should have been enough to at least get a draw, if not win the game.”

Johnson has also moved to shore up the midfield and defence by bringing in utility player Nathan Valentine from Witton Albion.

“Nathan can play at right-back or centre-half as well. He’s a talker and an organiser so hopefully he can give us a little bit of extra strength and know-how in midfield.”
