VICTORY at home to Droylsden in the FA Trophy on Saturday could provide the spark to reignite Radcliffe Borough's season, according to player coach Steve Foster.

Boro's recent resurgence stuttered with back-to-back defeats this week, going down 2-1 in the league at Glossop on Saturday and 5-2 at National League side AFC Fylde in the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy on Tuesday.

Foster believes they could easily have won both matches, but took their foot off the gas at key times, and he has called for 100 per cent focus in the cup this weekend.

"The cup game is massive for us because it is the next one," he said. "For me, it doesn't matter what game you are playing in, whether it is cup, league or friendly, if you are winning and scoring goals it has a snowball effect.

"Results breed confidence and belief within the team, so if we can grab a victory against Droylsden at the weekend then hopefully that will carry through into our next league game."

The 33-year-old front man, who was brought back to Boro near the end of last season after a successful spell with the club near the start of his career, has been impressed with the spirit shown in the camp after a difficult start to the current campaign.

They went into last Saturday's trip to Glossop on the back of a four-match unbeaten run but were unable to force their way back into the game after falling 2-0 behind.

Striker Sam McMahon pulled a goal back with a penalty and struck twice at Fylde in midweek to give Boro a 2-1 lead, which they were unable to hold on to after an injury to key defender Kevin McGrath.

"Our main problem has been keeping up our level of intensity for 90 minutes," he said.

"We started off a bit sluggish against Glossop and were punished.

"Then at Fylde I felt that we let our heads drop after some things in the match went against us.

"Losing Kevin with the game at 2-2 was a blow, but we then had a big shout for a penalty turned down and soon after they were given a debatable spot kick.

"Who knows what could have happened if we had taken a 3-2 lead? I felt we could have gone on to win the game, but when they went up the other end and scored we let it get to us and, understandably for a National League side, they took advantage and picked us off.

"That has gone now though.

"We have to learn from it and build another run.

"I have a strong belief in this group of players, they have the ability to score goals and compete for the play-offs at least, we just have to learn to keep our focus."

McGrath damaged ligaments in his foot in Tuesday's game and will be assessed by physios today.
