SAM McMahon's second-half penalty secured a deserved point for Evo-Stik First Division North strugglers Radcliffe Borough at Lancaster City.

Former captain Danny Lafferty slotted in at centre-back following his return to the club and Aaron Walters started at left-back after a long injury lay-off.

Both made a big impact as Boro stemmed the flow of goals they had conceded in recent games.

The game did not quite start to plan when Daniel Carlton scored for Lancaster after 17 minutes.

But unlike in recent heavy defeats, Boro heads did not drop.

Lancaster continued to pose a threat but some last-ditch defending kept them out and Boro went close at the other end through McMahon.

The home side upped their game after the break and took hold of the match as they pushed for an equaliser.

Lancaster keeper Michael Hale tipped an early effort from Steve Foster just over the bar.

And McMahon had another effort on goal, while Ric Smith's free-kick narrowly missed the target.

Boro finally got their just reward in the 78th minute when McMahon was brought down in the penalty area and got up to slot home the resulting penalty.

Danny Johnson's men bombarded the Lancaster goal in the final 10 minutes and were unlucky not to force the winner with an effort from Tom Hulme. Despite laying siege to their opponents penalty area they could not find a way through.

Boro's postponed Manchester Premier cup quarter-final tie against Ashton United will be rescheduled for January, with a date still to be confirmed.

Their next match in the league is at Brighouse Town on Saturday.
