DANNY Johnson is eager to see his Radcliffe Borough side earn the points their recent performances have deserved but has dismissed talk of a relegation six-pointer at Ossett Town on Saturday.

Boro remain fourth bottom of Evo-Stik First Division North after their league match at home to Trafford was postponed last weekend due to a waterlogged pitch.

They are five points above the drop zone and three ahead of third-bottom Ossett heading into this weekend's fixture.

The squad has been boosted in recent weeks by the return of legendary front man Jody Banim and experienced defender Mark Bainbridge.

But while they have both gelled nicely in the team, results have not quite followed suit.

In their last two league matches, Boro have endured a frustrating goalless stalemate at home to relegation candidates Harrogate Railway Athletic before being hit by what Johnson described as a late "sucker punch" in a 1-0 defeat at Brighouse Town.

"Anyone who has been to the matches recently will tell you that we are playing really well, we just maybe haven't had the luck in front of goal that we have deserved," said Johnson.

"We missed two or three really good chances to score against Harrogate and were hit on the break late in the game at Brighouse.

"I believe we deserved to get six points from both those games and would have moved up into mid-table by now.

"That didn't happen, but everyone here - the players and management team - are feeling really positive.

"There is definitely no talk about relegation. And I don't believe the match at Ossett is win at all costs.

"Of course we will be going for all three points, but we could lose that one and go on to win our next five so there is no pressure on us.

"We just have to keep concentrating on playing the way we have been doing and I am sure the points will come."

Johnson celebrated a year in charge of Boro this week and hopes to be able to carry on those celebrations on the pitch following a frustrating run of postponed fixtures due to the weather.

"It is hard to say whether all the games being rained off has been a good or a bad thing, only time will tell," he added.

"We have been able to strengthen the squad, as I know many of our rivals have done.

"I don't think it was a necessity to do that, but with all the postponed games we now face a congested fixture schedule up to the end of the season so it is good that we have been able to boost our numbers.

"Jody, for one, has fit right in and while he is yet to get off the mark in terms of goals, his performances have been excellent.

"You can see that he is a step ahead of defenders at this level and has linked up play really well.

"He has that quality that allows him to pick a pass and while Jody will be the first to admit that at 37 his glory days are probably behind him, he has given us something extra and I have no doubt the goals will soon come."
