RADCLIFFE Borough missed the chance to build on Saturday’s morale-boosting 2-1 victory at relegation rivals Ossett Town when they went down by a single goal at home to Kendal Town on Tuesday.

Ben Thomas seized on a defensive mix-up to opening the scoring for Kendal three minutes after the break.

And while Boro laid siege to the visitors’ goal for the remainder of the game, they were unable to find a way through.

It was a different story against Ossett at the weekend when a Steve Foster double, including a 90th-minute winner, helped Boro edge a bad-tempered game.

The Boro striker put them in front on 31 minutes, sliding the ball under the Ossett keeper from close range.

But the home side, who started the day third bottom, one place and three points behind Boro, forced their way back into the game through an Isaac Assenso equaliser 17 minutes from time.

The visitors then had to close out the match with only 10 men after centre-back Danny Lafferty was sent off for a second yellow card. But with the home side pressing, Foster came up trumps with a second for Boro at the end which opened up an eight-point cushion over second-bottom Harrogate Railway Athletic in the relegation zone.

The winner was experienced front man Foster’s third goal in two games after scoring in a 3-1 defeat against Stalybridge Celtic in the semi-finals of the Manchester Premier Cup last week.

An upset looked a possibility as Boro took a 1-0 lead into the break, but the National League side hit back in the second half through goals from Alex Johnstone, Dale White and Aiden Chippendale.
