JODIE Banim’s first goal since returning to Radcliffe Borough laid the foundation for a superb 2-0 victory at Ossett Albion on Tuesday night.

Boro went into the match on the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Scarborough on Saturday, which left them four points above the drop zone in Evo-Stik First Division North.

Manager Danny Johnson announced his decision to step down at the end of the season after that game.

The first team was also weakened by the departure of experienced striker Steve Foster, who joined Premier Division strugglers Ramsbottom United before the weekend.

But they bounced back brilliantly from those disappointments to take three points from an Ossett side that only needed to draw to move into the play-off places.

Banim pounced in the 10th minute to put Boro ahead while McMahon’s strike just three minutes after the break gave them some breathing space.

And while Ossett did their best to get back into the game, Boro held on for their first clean sheet in eight matches and first away victory since a 3-1 win at Bamber Bridge on December 19.

Scarborough took the lead on Saturday in the 50th minute when Jamie Forrester took advantage of Boro’s failure to clear their lines, stroking the ball into the empty net after an attempted clearance landed at his feet.

Banim hit a shot against the post as Boro pushed for an equaliser but Jamie Forbes was sent off in stoppage time.
