MISSED chances cost Radcliffe Borough dear as they went down 3-1 at home to Farsley Celtic in the FA Trophy.

Manager Bill Prendergast had earmarked the competition as one he felt his side could win and they certainly gave Evo-Stik First Division North high-flyers Farsley a run for their money.

But an inexperienced Boro side, who are 16th in First Division North, 14 places below their opponents, had less fortune and guile in both boxes.

The match remained goalless until a flurry of three goals in four second-half minutes turned it on it's head.

Farsley opened the scoring in the 57th minute when Alex Davidson produced some smart play on the right wing before tapping in.

It only took Jacques Kpohomouh two minutes to equalise – the Boro centre-back showing quick feet to beat a man and fire home from close range after picking up the loose ball in the box following a corner.

The home side will have fancied their chances to go on and win the game, but thoughts of glory were quickly erased when Farsley went straight back in front, Davidson netting his second of the game after slotting through the legs of Boro keeper Matty Johnson.

Elliott Rokka had a late shot blocked on the line before Radcliffe were caught out at the back as they pushed men forward, Lewis Nightingale skipping past two challenges before teeing up Richard Marshall for the visitors' third goal in the final minute.

It was a game of what could have beens, after captain Jack Hindle put two early efforts over and was denied by a brilliant stop from Celtic keeper Graham McKibbin in the first half.

McKibbin also palmed away a towering Kpohomouh header moments before Celtic opened the scoring.
