RADCLIFFE Borough showed their spirit as well as their ability this week after following up a bumper 5-1 win against Goole by taking a point at Colwyn Bay on Tuesday night.

Abou Sonogo was a prominent figure in both matches. The striker fired in a double in Saturday's home victory over relegation strugglers Goole and was rewarded with the captain's armband for the trip to North Wales, where he was on the scoresheet again.

Boro had to come from behind twice at Colwyn Bay to maintain a run of three matches unbeaten in Evo-Stik First Division North in October.

They got off to the worst possible start after Liam Turner fired the home side in front in the second minute.

But former skipper Jack Hindle, who was stripped of the captaincy for the game after being sent off against Goole, set up Sanogo to equalise in the 15th minute.

The match was played largely on the deck, with both teams showing off their passing skills in an end-to-end encounter.

Boro were unable to finish off their chances, however, and were punished after the break when Scott Bakkor put Colwyn back in front nine minutes into the second half.

But Sanogo led from the front and was instrumental as Raul Correia equalised 20 minutes from time.

The hard-earned point at Colwyn Bay continued the momentum created in Boro's five-star display against Goole, although the scoreline does not tell the full story of a match in which both sides finished with 10 men and three penalties were awarded.

Hindle opened the scoring for Boro after nine minutes with a powerful left-footed drive, and it remained 1-0 up to half time.

The second half started at a frantic pace and resulted in an early sending off for opposition striker Lewis Dennison following a high challenge on midfielder Timmy Raheem.

Frank Van Gils doubled Boro’s lead just before the hour mark as he acrobatically connected with a rebound from Elliot Rokka’s free kick.

Goole were given a way back into the match from the spot as substitute Lassana Nalatche was punished for a poor challenge on striker Curtly Martin-Wyatt inside the box.

The striker got up to convert from the spot.

Their joy was short lived, however, as Sanogo nodded in a header from close range.

Nalatche conceded yet another penalty in the 72nd minute, but Johnson denied Martin-Wyatt with a great double save.

It was then Boro’s turn to see red as Hindle was sent off in the 77th minute for kicking out in an off-the-ball incident.

But Rokka made the game safe two minutes later when he found the bottom corer with an angled drive, and Sanogo grabbed his second of the game from the spot in added time.

The four points from the two games moved Boro up to 11th in the table, six points outside the play-off places.
