RADCLIFFE Borough are on the lookout for a new manager after offering current boss Bill Prendergast a new role working with the academy.

Prendergast’s position had come under scrutiny following a poor run of results, which saw them drop to 18th place in Evo-Stik First Division North.

Two more defeats – 1-0 at home to Clitheroe on Saturday and 2-1 at fellow strugglers Mossley on Tuesday night – forced chairman Paul Hilton to act.

“While great strides have been made in the development of both the football and non-football aspects of the club, the recent run of results has left the board with a difficult decision to make,” said Hilton, who took over from Bernard Manning Jnr as chairman at the end of last season and brought Prendergast to the club.

“Bill’s contribution to the building of the foundations of our project cannot be understated.

“His knowledge of youth development has built us a young team with considerable talent and promise and has already borne fruit with our first player moving into the professional game and we now expect him to continue that process in his new role.”

Prendergast, who has not confirmed whether he will accept the new role, helped striker Raul Correia secure a contract at Blackpool in January. And Hilton said he hopes to find a manager who can continue that youth development while also improving results on the pitch.

Assistant manager Joe Gibbons will take charge of the team for Boro’s match at Glossop on Saturday.
