JON Macken’s first game in the Radcliffe FC dugout did not go according to plan as they went down 2-1 at bottom club Ossett Albion.

The home side claimed their first win of the Evo-Stik North campaign thanks to a late penalty, scored by Andy Welsh in the third minute of second-half stoppage time.

Boro had done well to battle back and get on to level terms after an underwhelming first-half display saw them go into the break 1-0 down.

Jason Price had fired a shot against the woodwork for the hosts before Albion opened the scoring in the 15th minute via an own goal from Darren Torpey, who deflected the ball past helpless Boro stopper Ryan Jones.

Boro opportunities were few and far between, with Ben Jago testing the home keeper with a free kick from the edge of the box and Stan Zhekov missing a half-chance just before the break.

Macken’s first half-time team talk seemed to have an effect as Boro came out all guns blazing in the second half, chasing down every ball and creating a host of chances.

A Carl Peers shot from distance whistled past the post before the manager’s first signing, James Hooper, equalised with a 20-yard drive into the bottom corner on 61 minutes.

Akil Greer and Stavros Tserpes tested the Albion keeper with shots from distance but they were unable to find the second goal their play deserved.

And Boro were hit by a sucker punch when a Torpey back pass failed to reach Jones and the keeper brought down Welsh to give away a penalty with less than a minute of stoppage time remaining.
