RADCLIFFE FC hung on with 10 men to record their first Evo-Stik North win under Jon Macken at Kendal Town on Saturday.

They went into the break leading 3-0 after debutant Rod Orlando-Young added a brace following Carl Peers’ opener.

The hosts, who entertain Boro again in the FA Trophy this weekend, replied strongly in the second half.

They pulled one back through Rick Seear before Jake Doran was sent off for Boro. But while Ben Thomas added a second goal for the Mintcakes with two minutes remaining, Macken’s men stood firm to seal all three points.

The visitors created numerous opportunities in the opening exchanges through Orlando-Young and James Hooper, while Kendal’s best moment fell to Connor Gaul who hit the crossbar.

Radcliffe opened the scoring on 19 minutes when Peers finished from close range after capitalising on a mistake by Kendal keeper Will Kitchen following a ball into the box by new signing Hooper.

Hooper was at the heart of the action, and earned another assist for the visitors’ second goal, this time setting up Orlando-Young for an easy finish on the half hour.

Radcliffe made it 3-0 in the 40th minute when Young scored his second of the afternoon, after making the most of some bad defending by the hosts.

Kendal were a different proposition after the break and dominated the second half after Seear powered a Gaul pass home on 54 minutes.

Radcliffe could have killed off the game shortly after that but Kitchen pulled off a great save to deny Orlando-Young his hat-trick, and the visitors were then put on the back foot when Doran was given his marching orders.

Thomas’s second goal for Kendal set up a chaotic finale, but Boro scrambled their way to a third victory of the Evo-Stik North campaign, which moved them up to 18th in the table.
