RADCLIFFE FC boss Jon Macken has urged his players to keep the faith as they go into this weekend’s tough trip to Glossop North End on the back of two cup defeats, writes Rachael Warham.

Macken’s men went down 2-1 at Kendal Town in the FA Trophy on Saturday and followed it up with a 1-0 defeat at Hyde United in the Manchester Premier Cup.

The manager put both losses down to individual errors, and believes if his players can cut them out they have the talent to compete with clubs like Glossop at the top of Evo-Stik North.

Glossop are third in the table, have lost just two games this season and boast one of the league’s top scorers in Benjamin Deegan.

But while Boro are down in 18th, Macken is adamant his players should not feel daunted by the challenge that lies in store for them in Derbyshire on Saturday.

“We just have to keep on believing,” he said.

“Sure, it’ll be tough on Saturday – Glossop are doing very well in the league.

“But we know as a team and individuals we can do well and get the results we need to start climbing the table.

“Once we stop making these mistakes I expect the results to become more consistent. The team is performing well as a group as well as individually.

“Our aim now is to cut out going a goal down and start going a goal ahead instead.”

Boro battled back after going two goals down in the first half at Kendal but could not force an equaliser after Carl Peers scored early in the second period.

And they were always in the cup tie at Hyde before a misplaced pass let the home side in.

Macken added: “Although the results were disappointing, the performances were good.

“We were unlucky. We created chances – plenty of them – but we keep making little mistakes, and every time we make one at the moment we get punished.”
