RADCLIFFE FC showed their battling qualities after twice coming from behind to draw 2-2 at promotion hopefuls Glossop North End on Saturday.

And manager Jon Macken has called for more of the same as his side bid to make it three league matches unbeaten when they host Colwyn Bay this weekend.

“We’re delighted by the attitude shown by the lads against Glossop,” said Macken, who was impressed with the way his side stood up to the physical challenge posed by the Derbyshire outfit, who are third in Evo-Stik North.

“Credit to the lads, they worked really hard and we now want the same performance against Colwyn Bay.

“I can’t see many sides being as physically strong as Glossop, and we did a good job there.

“We have the squad to do well, we just need to believe that now.”

The kick-off was delayed at Glossop after Boro forward Brendan Glackin suffered a serious ankle injury in the warm-up which will keep him out for up to four months.

It was a major blow for the team, with Glackin playing a big part in their recent upturn in form.

The players were undaunted and showed great spirit, with a goal in each half from Tom Owens and Akil Grier helping Boro twice bounce back after going behind.

They were unable to repeat the trick in the Integro League Cup on Tuesday, when Macken’s men lost 3-0 at Evo-Stik Premier side Witton Albion. But the Boro boss was not too downhearted by the result, saying the scoreline flattered the hosts.

“We didn’t take our chances against Witton – 3-0 looks worse than it was,” the manager said.

“We had a couple of chances when it was 2-0 and who knows what would have happened if we’d taken one of them.

“I don’t think the gulf was noticeable but you could tell they were well organised and had been playing together for a while.”
