RADCLIFFE FC made it four matches unbeaten in the league after picking up four points from two matches this week, writes Joe Haslam.

Goals from Akil Grier and Callum Grogan secured a 2-1 victory over Colwyn Bay on Saturday before Jon Macken's men held hosts Mossley to a goalless draw in midweek.

Boro could easily have claimed all three points had they made the most of some late chances on Tuesday night, but the draw maintained the momentum, moving them up to 17th in Evo-Stik North.

There was no doubt the rain had a part to play in Radcliffe's first 0-0 draw since January 2016.

A James Hooper free kick, which sailed over the bar, was the visitors' best chance of the opening half at Mossley, who were thwarted at the other end by stopper Ryan Jones.

Rio Ahmadi headed a chance straight at the Boro keeper, who was lucky to see a Jack Tuohy free kick drop wide after he misjudged an attempted punched clearance.

Radcliffe had the better of the second half without creating any clear-cut chances before the game opened up in the final 10 minutes.

Ahmadi had a header cleared off the line and put another just wide, while Jamie Matthews missed the target with Boro's best opportunity, heading wide after a Hooper free kick was deflected towards him at the back post.

Oliver Martin, in the Mossley goal, was forced into a fine save to keep out a Carl Peers shot from distance, and made another vital stop to deny Hooper in time added on after the Boro forward had a clear run on goal.

It was a different story at the weekend, when Macken's men were far more clinical in their finishing.

Grier put them a goal up inside three minutes with a crisp shot from outside the box that gave Colwyn Bay keeper Matthew Cooper no chance.

Hooper was unlucky not to extend the lead after twice being denied by the woodwork, while Jones was in fine form in the Boro goal, producing a worldie save to palm away an Astley Mullholland strike.

The visitors found a way past Jones early in the second half when Danny Andrews tapped in the rebound after he had made another good stop.

But Boro were back in front by the 55th minute when Callum Grogan had a go from distance and found the bottom corner.

The home side locked the game down, seeing it out for the victory, while Grier missed a couple of chances to extend their advantage in the closing stages.
