RADCLIFFE FC boss Jon Macken has refused to compromise his attacking approach despite watching his side give up a two-goal lead in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at home to Brighouse town.

Boro skipper Carl Peers scored twice to send them into the break 2-0 up, but they conceded three times in the final 25 minutes to end a six-match unbeaten run in Evo-Stik North.

Macken was at a loss to explain the collapse, but he was adamant that attack would continue to be his side’s best form of defence.

“Our strengths are going forward and getting the ball down on the floor,” he said.

“When we counter-attack, we go with pace – we play to our strengths.”

Boro’s results have improved under Macken after they lost six of their opening seven league games under previous boss Joe Gibbons.

But mistakes at the back have led to dropped points of late, with the club drawing three games in a row before Saturday’s defeat.

Macken added: “I don’t know what happened. We were fantastic in the first half and fell apart in the second half. We let ourselves down as we’ve had such a good five to six weeks.

“It was very disappointing as we went from a seven or eight to a three or four in performance level

“But I don’t want to focus on that second half. It doesn’t get us anywhere. In the first half we were tremendous so we have to look at that.

“It’s important we move on and make sure at crucial times in crucial areas, errors don’t happen.”

Boro, who are 18th in the table, will be without Mason Fallon (knee injury) and Kurt Sherlock (suspension) for Saturday’s game at Colne.
