RADCLIFFE FC suffered twice at the hands of Clitheroe this week, losing 2-1 at home to them in Evo-Stik North on Saturday and 4-0 away in the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy quarter-finals on Tuesday night.

Boro went in front through an Isaac Ward header in the 39th minute of the league encounter, but that was as good as it got for them over the two matches.

Clitheroe equalised with an hour gone when the ball fell to Alex Newby who slotted home. Ryan Ellison played the part of super sub for Clitheroe in the 83rd minute after he surged forward and latched on to a through ball and converted his chance into the bottom corner.

The late turnaround seemed to give Clitheroe momentum in the cup tie, which they dominated from the first whistle.

They opened the scoring on 10 minutes, when Newby looped a header over stranded Boro stopper Kyle Haslam.

Clitheroe then made it two on the stroke of half time when Kurt Willoughby fired a free kick into the bottom corner that Haslam got a hand to but could not keep out.

It took the home side five minutes of the second half to add to their tally, Newby squaring for Danny Byrnes, who scored from the rebound after Haslam saved his initial shot. Callum Grogan put a header wide for Boro before Byrnes rounded off the scoring with a fourth for Clitheroe.
