RADCLIFFE FC chairman Paul Hilton says it will take time for the Jon Macken revolution to take effect.

Macken has begun to stamp his mark on the Neuven Stadium’s playing squad with a vengeance with six players arriving in the last fortnight.

The latest pair, big centre-forward Henoc Mukendi and winger Mo Cham, were signed in between Saturday’s 7-0 home defeat to Droylsden and the 3-0 loss at Trafford three days later.

With such a big turnaround in playing staff it will take time for the team to settle and gel.

But Hilton is happy to let Macken go at his own fast pace to form his own team if he wishes.

“Jon came in in September and he could have got rid of the lot there and then,” said Hilton.

“But that’s not the way he wanted to do it. He wanted to give everyone a chance to show what they can do.

“Unfortunately, too many have not shown the right characteristics they needed to and Jon’s acted.

“We know when you make so many changes it’s not going to happen right away.

“We have to accept there are going to be some bumps in the road when you’re going through a transition and that’s what we’re finding.

“We need to steady things so we can build for next season.”

The festive defeats leave Boro third bottom of Evo-Stik League North with one team being relegated this season.

Both Droylsden and Trafford are in healthy positions in the division and Radcliffe have two more challenging games coming up with a derby against Ramsbottom on New Year’s Day followed by Glossop the following Saturday.

Rammy are five places above Radcliffe while Glossop are currently ninth in the table.

“Obviously it was a really poor performance against Droylsden but the players performed a lot better at Trafford and showed a lot of fight,” said Hilton.

“In terms of the display it was never a 3-0.”

Radcliffe have been hit by the absence of star forward James Hooper for the last three games with a hamstring injury, but he could be fit to return against Ramsbottom when he would be likely to play alongside Mukendi whom Hilton believes is a good signing.

“He’s made 12 appearances for Northampton, so it shows the calibre of player he is,” said the chairman.

“He’s 6ft 4in and had a big presence up front at Trafford.

“Having him up there will make a difference and means we can change the way we play if we want.

“Cham is younger, he came out of Blackburn’s under-21s. He’s a dynamic winger. We did a lot of hard work to bring them in between the last two games. It shows what we’re prepared to do.”
