JON Macken said he was delighted for his players after Radcliffe FC got their first league win in 10 games on New Year’s Day.

Boro took the derby honours with a 3-1 home victory over Ramsbottom United to climb one place to fourth bottom of EvoStik League North and end a run of five defeats and four draws.

The win came after a mass turnover of players which saw six arrive and four leave over the last three weeks.

They gelled against Rammy and Macken says there will be more ups and downs before they settle into the successful side he envisages.

“I was pleased for the lads that they got the win,” he said.

“We’re a work in progress and we’ve played some good teams and teams who were in good form over that period when we’ve not been winning.

“We’ve played the majorly of teams who are up near the top of the league and we were in the middle of changing the side and in a little bit of an indifferent period.

“Some of the games that we drew we should have won and the last game against Trafford we showed glimpses of what we are about and then we carried it on against Rammy.

“We’ve got Glossop on Saturday and they’re another team who are big and physical and up there in the table.

“Like many of the teams in this league they’ll look to capitalise on our mistakes.

“Teams will try to capitalise on our mistakes so we’ve got to cut out or cut down on making any.

“It’s going to be a long process to get where we want to be but we’ve got to work hard and come together and fight for the same cause.

“I’ve seen some improvements of late, the lads have showed commitment and desire and they’ve got to believe.”
