RADCLIFFE brought home three points from their trip to Yorkshire in a 1-0 victory at Ossett Town, a win that completed a sad week for the club on a positive note.

A minute’s silence was held before the match in memory of club secretary Ric Fielding who passed away the previous week.

The game started slowly, with both sides trying to find a degree of dominance but cancelling each other out with neither managing to create any genuine goal scoring opportunities in the first half.

In what was their fourth straight away fixture, Radcliffe had plenty of possession throughout the first period but could not find the breakthrough.

It took until the second half for the first opportunity of the game.

Boro’s Liam Wood was played in but fired over the bar, and that chance kick-started a succession of opportunities in which the visitors could not break down the opposition.

Ossett were reduced to 10 men just after the hour mark, when Corey Gregory received a red card for violent conduct in an off-the-ball clash with James Hooper.

With the one-man advantage, Boro were pressing for the winner, but the best of their chances was a Hooper effort from distance which was saved comfortably by the Ossett goalkeeper.

The hosts had their chances to score, and Radcliffe were grateful for Callum Grogan clearing a shot off the line after it went past Connor Keane in goal.

Four minutes were added on for someone to find the winning goal.

The 10 men of Ossett were pressing and Boro were biding their time, soaking up pressure and looking to hit the opposition on the counter-attack.

And from one break they finally took their chance.

A cross into the box was flicked on by Grogan and when the ball came to Jordan Bove he headed into the top corner.

With no time on the clock for Ossett to respond, the victory sent the players, staff and travelling supporters delirious and caused agony for the home side after their exertions with a numerical disadvantage.

Radcliffe assistant manager Frank Sinclair said: “The lads did put in a fantastic, committed performance for Ric Fielding and reaped the rewards.

“He was probably cheering with the rest of us.”
