RADCLIFFE could not capitalise on their victory at Clitheroe, as they fell to defeat on Tuesday at home to Ossett Albion.

Boro had put in a tremendous performance at the weekend, taking the three points with a 2-0 victory, James Hooper’s late strike adding to an own goal in the fourth minute.

But conceding twice in the first half against Ossett saw Jon Macken’s side beaten 2-1.

Albion’s Adam Priestley had the first chance of the game eight minutes in but his shot was hit straight at Connor Keane.

The visitors took the lead moments later as Marcus Day tapped in from close range.

It was Kingsley Williams that had the first Boro chance but he just could not divert his header goalwards in the 16th minute.

And midway through the first half Ossett added a second when Aiden Chippendale beat Keane and tapped into an empty net.

Ben Jago almost got Radcliffe back into the game with half an hour gone, shooting off-target after a some good build-up play.

Ten minutes into the second half Ben Jago was denied by a good save from Brett Souter.

Williams again came close for Boro with half an hour to play but this time he was denied by the post after a great long-range effort.

Radcliffe did halve the deficit in the 66th minute, Louis Myers making the most of the space he had been allowed to get his shot away and beyond Souter’s reach.

But it failed to spark a fightback from Radcliffe, as the Yorkshire team saw out the victory.

A positive, energetic start to the match at Clitheroe saw home defender Danny Brady beat Myers to Mason Fallon’s low cross but his touch took the ball past his goalkeeper and in for the opening goal.

A host of chances went begging for Radcliffe’s Myers, Hooper and Callum Grogan and Clitheroe did not make them pay, when they put their best chance against the bar.

Rick Smith and Jago were thwarted by Clitheroe keeper Chris Thompson but Hooper sealed the win for Radcliffe when he tapped in Jago’s ball across goal four minutes from time.

Boro are on the road this Saturday, with a trip to promotion-chasing Scarborough Athletic. Kick off is 3pm.
