RADCLIFFE travelled to Scarborough Athletic’s Flamingo Land Stadium on a rainy Easter Saturday by the coast in the hunt for points but were left with egg on their faces after a 5-1 loss.

The game got off to a thunderous start and it took just five minutes to get the scoring going for the hosts, James Walshaw slotting into the bottom corner to put them ahead.

But, straight from the restart came Radcliffe’s first attack, and when Mason Fallon’s cross found Kingsley Williams he netted Boro’s equaliser.

Williams was almost the provider of a second Radcliffe goal, playing in James Hooper but, in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, he put his lobbed finish agonisingly wide.

Scarborough then seemed to find an extra gear and stormed into a two-goal lead.

Max Wright found an extra yard of pace and placed one across the keeper into the corner and Michael Coulson fired in from outside the box to make it 3-1 to Scarborough with less than 20 minutes played.

The hosts started to dominate and get forward in numbers and they hit the post when Walshaw was not picked up from a free kick.

Boro had their last real chance of the half just before the break but Liam Wood’s shot from distance hit the side netting.

To conclude an entertaining half Scarborough almost had a fourth goal but, under pressure, Walshaw could not find the finish with his header.

The second half began with Radcliffe brighter and keeping the ball better.

Jordan Bove had a excellent opportunity to get Boro back into the game but fired wide.

But everything changed in the 67th minute. After Connor Keane collected a high ball and looked to release it quickly he was stopped by Walshaw and some jostling led to the Scarborough man going to ground.

The referee gave a penalty, that Coulson scored, after which Boro manager Jon Macken was sent to the stands for his furious protests.

Scarborough eased through the rest of the game and got a deserved fifth goal at the end, Chris Dawson firing in off the post from distance.

Macken’s side are back at the Neuven Stadium on Saturday, when they face Hyde United.

Kick off is 3pm.
