JON Macken has made six summer signings as he looks to build a Radcliffe FC squad capable of winning promotion.

The Neuven Stadium manager has brought in a goalkeeper, three defenders, a midfielder and a forward.

Boro ended last season third bottom of the Evo-Stik North division – a position they are far too ambitious to be happy with in the new campaign.

Macken began his first managerial role after the season had started and gave the existing Radcliffe players a chance to prove themselves before drastically reshaping the side with more than half a team of new signings.

And the new half dozen arrivals in the summer mean the squad will now have a big proportion of players whom he has brought in.

The new arrivals are goalkeeper Ollie Martin from New Mills, wing-back Callum Scullion – who had a spell at Boro in 2016 and last season played at Mossley on loan from Oldham Athletic, defender Lewis Lacy from Glossop North End, centre-back Elliot Messam, who most recently played at Belgian side Patro Eisden Maasmechelen, forward Tunde Owolabi from Prescot Cables, and attacking midfielder Shelton Payne who has played for Chorley, Colwyn Bay, Hyde United, FC United, Salford City and Ramsbottom United.

Payne was part of the FC United team that won the Evo-Stik Premier title in 2015, and is looking to do the same with Boro.

He told the club: "There is a lot of optimism and good feeling about next season and I'm happy to be a part of it.

"We are going to target promotion. We have to have a good pre-season, gel and adapt quickly."
