SUPPORTERS were left dreaming of promotion and cup glory after two convincing victories this week made it four wins on the bounce.

Rammy came from behind to earn a creditable 3-1 win at home to a decent Grantham Town side on Saturday , with the three point moving them up to fourth in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

And they carried that wave of optimism into Tuesday night's Doodson Cup mis-match against Burscough at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium.

Even the visitors' opening goal in the eighth minute through a well-taken Nick Ryan free kick did little to puncture their bubble.

Burscough were unable to handle Osebi Abadaki's pace and power down the flanks.

And it took less than 15 minutes for the Rams to equalise, Alex Piancentile drivng in past a flat footed keeper from 25 yards.

After a poor Jordan Hulme effort on Saturday, United wasted another spot-kick before Abadaki twisted away from the tightest of positions on the touchline and induced an own goal from Ryan.

For the remainder of the half Burscough clung to the ropes taking shot after shot and surviving at least a dozen corners until, on the whistle, one found the head of Steve Howson and his effort squeezed in between goalkeeper and defender on the line.

With Howson and Cedric Krou the only recognised defenders in the team, it was hardly surprising that the visitors were able to find time and space to give Grant Shenton shot-saving practice without ever really looking like scoring again.

Just after the hour Hulme broke through and calmly slotted past Jack Cookson. Then came the high point of the game as Grant Spencer and Phil Dean exchanged an exquisite one-two to put Spencer in to finish off the scoring with a delicate chip.

Saturday's victory over Grantham followed a similar script with the visitors taking the lead following a close-range effort from Stefan Bilyk on 11 minutes.

It took until the 52nd minute for Rammy to come to their senses, when Scott Burton's instant pass found Dominic Smalley flying into acres of space wide on the right to send a beautiful shot across the keeper and into the bottom corner.

Hulme then made some good pressure count 10 minutes later with a low shot inside the near post.

And with Grantham pushing for an equaliser, Hulme launched a quick break to find Jon Robinson in the box who, untroubled by any semblance of marking, made no mistake.

There was still a chance in added time to heap more misery on the visitors after Lee Gaskell was unceremoniously upended in the penalty area, but Hulme's penalty ballooned over.
