NEW Ramsbottom manager Jon Robinson has hailed the return of striker Lee Gaskell to the club, saying he is the best centre forward in the North West.

Gaskell, who is one of eight new additions in recent weeks, rejoins after a two month spell at Warrington town, and Robinson is delighted to see the return of a man who has scored 108 goals in 187 appearances for the Rams.

“He brings goals it’s a simple as that and his record speaks for itself.

“I think he is the best centre forward in the North West. He brings a great attitude to the squad as well and that is what we need.

“In recent weeks we haven’t scored enough,” said Robinson.

The new manager will be hoping his star striker can get on the score sheet this weekend, as Robinson still waits to make his bow in his new position.

With Tuesday night’s Doodson Cup tie against Northwich Victoria called off, and their last two league games also postponed, the new man in charge is eager to get started this weekend.

“It has been frustrating that we haven’t been able to get a game on, and I’m obviously itching to start.

“On the other hand we have had more time to prepare, so hopefully this weekend it won’t be called off,” said Robinson.

The Rams are at home to Frickley Athletic this Saturday with three games in hand on those around them.

Robinson says he doesn’t want to settle for a mid-table finish, and that he wants to build on what Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley bought to the club.

“I’m not here just sit in mid table; we have games in hand so we can push on.

“They did well at the club so I don’t want to change much obviously; I want us to keep progressing.

"The style they bought here, I want to keep.

"That’s what keeps the fans coming back, the way Rammy play football.”
