RAMSBOTTOM United's planned return to home action was put back again at the weekend as their Evo-Stik Premier Division match against Grantham Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The club have not played at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium since a 1-1 draw against Stamford on December 19.

Their ground was flooded on Boxing Day, triggering a massive clean-up operation.

It was hoped that they would return last Saturday, but further wet weather put paid to that game, with their next scheduled home match now due to take place against Ashton United on Saturday, February 20.

And with Rammy's intended opponents on Tuesday night, Nantwich Town, otherwise engaged in the FA Trophy, that took the number of postponements for the season to 14 - two more than the whole of last season.

Club spokesman Tony Cunningham said: "We thought last year was bad for games being called off, but incredibly this year is even worse, and we're not out of winter yet.

"Most games have fallen victim of the ridiculously wet weather since November, although cup ties have also played their part.

"We just hope that after all the problems the club has had this season, we can resume playing without further interruption until the end of the season."

Meanwhile, manager Garry Vaughan has added three new experienced faces to his squad as he continues to guide the club off the bottom of the Premier Division.

Kevin McGrath, a 30-year-old centre-back, has joined from Mossley, while 29-year-old left-back signed from Glossop North End and centre-midfielder Sean Williams, aged 25, made the move from Congleton Town ahead of Saturday's trip to table-toppers Blyth Spartans.
