RAMSBOTTOM United’s 2-2 draw at home to Glossop North End on Saturday was delayed by a bizarre incident between visiting central-defender Simon Woodford and the referee.

Woodford was unhappy Rammy striker Gareth Seddon was not shown a card after catching him in the face with a flailing boot.

It was deemed accidental, but the Glossop defender got into hot water for protesting to the referee’s assistant as he received treatment on the sidelines.

The argument continued at the side of the pitch as Louis Myers scored a free kick to put Rammy 2-1 up.

The frustration possibly got the better of Woodford and he retreated to the sanctuary of the dressing room before the referee was able to issue a red card for dissent.

The match official stopped the game for more than five minutes as the Glossop bench argued their centre-back’s case, but when Woodford finally reappeared he was immediately given his marching orders.

Glossop picked up five yellow cards in the game, as well as the red, but they left the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium with a point.

The visitors took the lead on 37 minutes when Michael Norton sneaked in behind Rams keeper Ashley Shenton to poke home a high cross from the left.

Rammy equalised through Myers five minutes later. Glossop stopper Matt Cooper attempted to punch a high ball clear, only to hit it on to Myers and the ball looped into the unguarded net.

Myers put the home side in front on 55 minutes but immediately after the game restarted following the protracted Woodford incident, Karl Jones skipped down the Rams’ right and fired in the equaliser.

Both sides had chances to snatch all three points, with Glossop twice denied by the woodwork, but the entertaining game ended all square.
