RAMSBOTTOM United took a maximum six points from the week to move up to 15th place in Evo-Stik First Division North.

After battling to a confidence-boosting victory over Sheffield in the FA Trophy the previous weekend, Rammy built on that improved display with a 2-1 victory at home to Ossett Albion on Saturday before following up with a 1-0 win at Colne on Tuesday night.

The back-to-back league victories also followed the return of former winger Grant Spencer, who was a key player for the Rams as they won promotion from the North West Counties League up to the Evo-Stik Premier.

Damian Green scored the winner at Colne 14 minutes from time and when it came it was certainly worth the wait.

Spencer found Green with a precise angled bass and he unleashed a 20-yard drive into the roof of the net.

The visitors were forced to see out the closing stages of the game with 10 men after second-half substitute Pierre Yamfam picked up two yellow cards in just 10 minutes on the pitch.

Thankfully, his departure did not affect the result.

Saturday's victory followed an equally tight match, which could have gone either way.

Ossett's James Ayles gave the visitors the lead from the spot following a contentious penalty award in the 30th minute.

But Sam Freakes put Rammy back level on the stroke of half time after Albion keeper Brett Souter spilled a free kick into his path.

The Rams went on to largely control the game in the second half, but it took a 63rd minute penalty from Green to seal the victory.

Spencer sent Ollie Crankshaw clear with a neat ball inside the full-back and the winger was fouled in the act of shooting, with Green stepping up to roll the spot kick into the bottom corner.

Ryan Salmon almost added a third when he lifted the ball over the despairing keeper only to see it bounce just the wrong side of the goal.
