RAMSBOTTOM United's Tuesday-night woes continued in midweek when they fell to a 3-1 defeat at home to Hyde United.

Mark Fell's men fell to their heaviest ever home defeat the previous Tuesday, when they shipped seven goals without reply against Evo-Stik First Division North leaders Farsley Celtic.

Rammy clawed back a modicum of respect at the weekend when they drew 2-2 at fellow play-off hopefuls Brighouse Town.

But the night terrors returned against Hyde, whose formula for success involved holding their shape, passing and moving quickly and pouncing on any indecision from the home players.

Big Khamsuk was not so much a leading light for the young side as a beacon, showing how the game can be played.

While notionally playing in a central position, just after the quarter hour he found himself wide on the right before rocketing past a static defence, exchanging a one-two in the box and firing past a startled Martin Fearon at his near post.

It took the Rams some time to respond but they might have drawn level on the half hour, when Lee Gaskell volleyed a superb Grant Spencer cross over the bar.

The score remained 1-0 up to the break and when Rammy levelled just after the restart it looked as if an open match was in prospect.

Darrhyll Mason collected the ball just outside the box and after resisting the chance to fall under a challenge squared the ball back to Gaskell who made no mistake from 10 yards.

However, the home fans barely had time to exhale the final notes of their feather-brained ditty about seagulls and pasties before Hyde went ahead for the second time.

Again it was Khamsuk who took advantage of self-inflicted mayhem in the Rams' defence to fire a second shot low into the corner.

Fell threw on substitutes Gareth Seddon, Darren Green and Ollie Crankshaw but apart from a downward header from Luke Thompson that was clawed away and a repeat run from Mason into the box that was snuffed out at the near post, the Rams struggled to threaten the Hyde goal.

And as the home side pushed men forward, Jamal Banker beat Fearon at his near post for Hyde's third, decisive goal.

It was another bitter pill to swallow for Rammy, who had threatened to bounce straight back from their Farsley mauling with a win at Brighouse.

After going behind in the opening minute, two goals from Gaskell – a 16th-minute penalty and close-range header just after the break – put them in front, but Michael Fish broke an attempted Rammy offside trap to net the equaliser for Brighouse with 10 minutes remaining.

This week's results left the Rams in 10th, seven points outside the play-offs with a game in hand of fifth-placed Colne.
