RAMSBOTTOM United manager Mark Fell last week called on his players to win their final seven games of the season to stand any chance of making the play-offs following a points decision.

But back-to-back defeats this week look to have ended their season early.

Rammy showed little of the fight called for by their boss in a 2-0 defeat at home to Trafford on Saturday, and they were swept aside at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium on Tuesday night, losing 4-0 to Scarborough.

Fell's men started brightly in the opening 20 minutes against Scarborough before the visitors found their feet, forcing a couple of smart saves from Martin Fearon.

The home side only real sight at goal followed a deflected shot from Grant Spencer that Scarborough's young keeper Joe Green did well to stop at his near post.

But the wheels fell off after Chris boulder slipped his marker to head home the opener for the visitors on the stroke of half time.

Rammy put in a woeful second-half display as they conceded three more.

Matt Turnbull shot into the corner from 12 yards on 64 minutes before Jacob Hazel looped in a shot from the corner of the box 12 minutes from time.

The rout was seal by Hazel with a fourth in the final minute.

It was not much better against Trafford.

The Rams came close twice in the first half from well-directed Spencer free kicks met by powerful headers, first by Brad Roscoe, which skimmed the top of the bar, and the second from Luke Thomson, which Terry Smith did well to divert over the bar.

A wonder save by Fearon, turning over a point blank volley, kept the scores level at the break.

But this only delayed the inevitable and on the hour Trafford went in front, Luke Horrocks spinning sharply on the edge of the box and sending a swerving shot beyond Fearon and into the net off the inside of the post.

Six minutes later Fearon was shown a red card for dangerous play, raising his studs when catching a high ball under a challenge from Ash Woods.

Woods picked himself up to slot home the resulting penalty past stand-in stopper Dean Scott.
