GLOSSOP winger Ben Richardson is the fourth new face at Ramsbottom United as preparations for the new Evo-Stik League North season gather pace.

The 28-year-old wide man brings and impressive CV and bags of quality to the Riverside, hitting double figures in goals for the Hillmen last season and a remarkable number of assists, including three against the Rams.

"He was a key target for us from the get-go," said Rammy manager Mark Fell.

“We sat down with him over a month ago and although in the end it’s taken a bit of doing, Ben has impressed me with his professional approach.

"He's a top player in this league and an excellent character off the pitch."

The Manchester-based school teacher was very much in demand over the summer after announcing his Glossop departure, and the Rams have had to fend off suitors from the Evo-Stik Premier Division for his signature.

Richardson is the second former Glossop player to join the Rams this summer, following team-mate Eddie Moran to the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium.

He has been in training this week and is expected to make his debut in the home friendly against Accrington Stanley on Tuesday, July 11 (kick off 7.45pm).

Rammy's first warm-up match of pre-season is at West Lancs league side Tempest on Saturday, July 8 (12noon) before hosting Accrington Stanley.

Weekend trips to Haslingden St Marys and Caernarfon Town on July 15 and 22 (both 3pm) come either side of a home game with Blackburn Rovers’ Under-23s side on Wednesday, July 19 (7.45pm).

Fleetwood visit on Friday, July 28 (7.45pm) before Ramsbottom conclude their summer on Saturday, August 5, away at AFC Blackpool (3pm).
