BURY midfielder Peter Sweeney has torn up his contract and has left Gigg Lane by mutual consent.

The club confirmed on its website that the 28-year-old central-midfielder had decided to leave for personal reasons and had taken up a contract at League Two side AFC Wimbledon.

Sweeney arrived at Gigg Lane in August, 2010, and made a total of 95 appearances. He scored five times for the club, including last campaign’s goal of the season - a wonder strike at Walsall.

Youngsters Liam Boswell and Luke McCarthy have also left the club after their contracts were mutually cancelled.
