BURY have had their Football League transfer embargo lifted after repaying their loan to the PFA today, the club have confirmed.

The Shakers were placed under the embargo on December 10 after taking out the short-term loan which they always planned to repay by the middle of this month.

It meant they were unable to sign any new players until the loan was repaid.

But with the Gigg Lane outfit receiving their annual payments from the Premier League this week, believed to be in the region of £200,000, they have now been able to repay the debt and are free to dip into the transfer market once more.

It will be a huge boost to boss Kevin Blackwell who has also had to deal with a raft of injuries as well as working under the embargo with limited resources.

And speaking to the Bury Times this week, commercial director David Manchester said the board are now committed to putting the club back on an even footing financially.

He said: "The key to making sure this (transfer embargo) doesn't happen again is good housekeeping.

"We have to live within our means.

"It is clear we are trying to run a League One club with Conference attendances, so to keep competing at this level we need to look at increasing our revenue streams off the pitch."
