NICKY Ajose returns to Gigg Lane with unfinished business after securing a loan deal to play for his hometown club until the end of the season.

As a Manchester United youth player, the Ramsbottom-born striker scored 13 goals in 28 appearances on loan at Bury, playing a key role in their League Two promotion season.

But, after failing to earn a professional contract at Old Trafford, he was snapped up by Peterborough.

“I always felt like it was unfortunate that I never got the chance to play on with Bury after we won promotion and I was left feeling like I had unfinished business,” said Ajose.

“It is a nice move for me to go back to a place I obviously know well and had some great times at, but it’s also a good opportunity for me.”

The young forward has been treading water somewhat since weighing in with some key goals in Bury’s victorious run-in in the 2010/11 campaign.

Since moving to London Road on a four-year contract in July 2011, Ajose has only made one start for the Posh.

He was loaned out to Scunthorpe and Chesterfield last season and spent the first half of the current campaign with former Bury boss Richie Barker at Crawley Town.

After only scoring four goals since leaving Gigg Lane, Ajose is now eager to revive the form that made him a real favourite with the Shakers fans and help preserve their League One status in the bargain.

“Bury aren’t in the best of shape at the minute, but they have improved a lot since Kevin Blackwell has come in as manager and I believe they have what it takes to get out of trouble,” said Ajose.

“I know I’m still only young, but in football terms I have quite a bit of experience so I hopefully I will be able to come in and help the team and get a few goals in the process.”

Bury, who remain third bottom in League One, travel to relegation rivals Shrewsbury Town on Saturday. The Shrews are eight points better off but Bury have two games in hand.
