IT has been a busy day of transfer activity at Bury, with two in and two out at Gigg Lane.

Manager Kevin Blackwell has swooped to bring Cameroon midfielder Valéry Mézague and experienced defender Carl Regan to the club.

Mézague, aged 29, has joined on non-contract terms after training with Bury for the last few months. The French-born player had a spell at Portsmouth under Harry Redknapp in the Premier League and has also played for French Ligue 1 sides Monpellier and FC Sochaux.

Right-back Regan, aged 33, has been given a four-month deal after impressing in a reserve match this week. The defender has played at 10 different clubs over a 16-year career, with his longest spells at Macclesfield and Bristol Rovers, while he was most recently at Notts County.

Bury also today announced the permanent departures of 21-year-old right-back Andrai Jones and 22-year-old striker Lenell John-Lewis, who have both been released from their contracts.

Jones has completed a switch to Barnsley, while John-Lewis has moved to Grimsby Town, both on 18-month contracts.

Blackwell has confirmed, however, that 40-year-old centre-back Efe Sodje has turned down the chance of permanent moves to Blue Square Bet Premier sides Macclesfield and Luton.
