Hughes loaned to Accrington Stanley

First published in Bury FC by

BURY centre-back Mark Hughes has been loaned to Accrington Stanley until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old defender is the third player to leave Gigg Lane today, after Andrai Jones and Lenell John-Lewis were released from their contracts.

Hughes has made 48 appearances for the Shakers since signing at the start of the 2011/12 season, but has struggled to nail down a regular place in the starting line-up since manager Kevin Blackwell's arrival last September.

Mark has had a solid if unspectular time at Gigg Lane but has been an ever defender in our back 4.

I was quite surprised that he has chosen to go a struggling league 2 outfit.

Good luck to you,i suppose this is not au-revoir more like abientot.

Unless Eastham or Zubar get injured or suspended Eileen i doubt that we'll see Hughes in a Bury shirt again.Barker signed a lot of players worse than Hughes but he really lacks the pace and athleticism to be successful in League One.

I've heard Hughes was only sent out at the last minute to Accy to balance the books, due to Sodje turning his proposed move to Accy/Luton down.

We've inserted a 24hr recall clause into the loan move, to counter the same agreement Bournemouth have for Zubar.

Now i can see why Blackwell left Sodje out on Saturday. He's been told he has no future at Bury, he should have gone when given the chance.

shaken,Blackwell has been trying to offload Sodje and Peter Sweeney ever since he arrived at the club, however Sodje is entitled to see out his contract and make himself available for selection, whatever Blackwell may think. In fact Sodje may well still be at the club longer than Blackwell, nothing about Blackwell's reign suggests permanence to me.

Of course he's entitled to see out his contract, but how many footballers of his age would rather rot in the reserves and train with the youth players than play competitive 1st team football at the top of the Conference???????

Selfish act, if you ask me.

But why wasn't he on the bench on Saturday when no other defenders were available? Petty ,spiteful act from a petty, spiteful little man.The real problem is that Barker signed Lockwood, who is nowhere near good enough,on a two year contract. He's now injured, but with two loan centre backs brought in we had at least one too many on the payroll.Blackwell clearly doesn't rate either Hughes or Sodje so one was always likely to go out on loan, the big problem down the line is going to be how do we offload Lockwood?
