BURY manager David Flitcroft dedicated Saturday’s stunning 3-1 victory over League Two leaders Burton Albion to his uncle, Gary Flitcroft, as he battles to overcome a stroke.

A second-half double from substitute Danny Nardiello and a third goal in as many games from strike partner Ryan Lowe helped the Shakers to the top of the table.

But Flitcroft did not take part in the post-match celebrations, instead rushing to be with his cousins Julie and Janet at their father’s bedside at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

“It is extraordinary how hard he is fighting and how hard the family is supporting that fight,” said Flitcroft of his 76-year-old uncle, who collapsed while on holiday in the Canary Islands.

“After what he has gone through over in Tenerife a lot of people would have given up, but the power of his fight is truly inspirational.

“When I see him fight so hard to get normality back into his life, he makes me more determined to drive on this group of players to fight for every inch of the pitch, every second they play.

“Saturday’s win was for him because I know how much he would have loved the performance.”
