BURY’S stay at the top of League Two proved to be short-lived after Exeter substitute Jimmy Keohane pounced late on to inflict their first defeat in nine matches.

The Shakers fell behind in only the fifth minute following a sweetly struck free kick from Grecians midfielder Matt Grimes.

David Flitcroft’s side laid siege to the home goal for the remainder of the first half without being able to finish off a series of incisive moves.

Tom Soares eventually put them back on level terms on the hour after beating Exeter stopper Christy Pym at his near post with a 25-yard shot.

But Paul Tisdale’s resilient outfit began to look dangerous on the break as Bury pushed for the winner in the closing stages.

And Keohane pounced on a fumble from Bury keeper Rob Lainton six minutes from time to end their unbeaten run.

Victory for second-placed Burton, who Bury beat last weekend to go top, knocked the them off their perch after spending only seven days at the top of the League Two summit.
