BURY failed to recover from a first-half double from Wimbledon hotshot Adebayo Akinfenwa to go down to their second consecutive away defeat.

The giant striker moved to seven goals in six games after volleying the Dons in front on 26 minutes before doubling their advantage with a 37th-minute header.

Shakers manager David Flitcroft changed to a flat back-four in the second half, and the switch paid almost immediate dividends as left-winger Danny Mayor drifting inside to curl home a trademark shot four minutes after the restart.

But the defence was caught napping five minutes later as Matt Tubbs got his toe to a low George Francomb corner and the ball crept inside the far post.

The third goal looked to have knocked the stuffing out of Bury’s fightback, but a foul by Barry Fuller on Nicky Adams in the box gave them another route back into the match.

Ryan Lowe scored the resulting penalty to set up a tense final 15 minutes but the home side hung on to condemn Bury to their third defeat of the season, which saw them drop two places in the table, back to third.
