BURY youth coach Ryan Kidd has urged his young side to seize their opportunity after Manchester United switched their third round FA Youth Cup tie to Old Trafford.

His Under-18s squad showed great spirit to set up the glamour tie after continually battling back at Port Vale in the last round to eventually win 4-3 after extra time.

Now Kidd has told his players to go out and enjoy the prize.

“In 25 years as first a player and then as a coach and manager, I never made it to Old Trafford,” said Kidd. “But my players, some of whom are only 16, have been given this chance at the very start of their careers.

“I only hope they all turn up on the night and are not overawed by the stage.

“I will be telling them to go out and enjoy it, but not to forget their job, which is to try to win a football match.”

Kidd knows that his players will go into the tie as rank outsiders, but does not believe that they are there to merely make up the numbers.

“My players will not be the only ones who will be nervous on the night,” he added.

“The Manchester United youth side play most of their games at Carrington, so this could be the first time many of them will have graced Old Trafford as well.

“This will be a very big night for them. Their coaching staff will have pushed very hard to get this game moved and they won’t want to disappoint, so we could take advantage of that ”

The Old Trafford tie has been scheduled for Tuesday, December 16, kick off 7pm.
