STRUGGLING Dagenham and Redbridge hauled themselves out of the League Two relegation zone after completing the double over Bury.

Rhys Murphy’s 51st-minute strike proved enough to end the home side’s run of four games without a win - their last coming in a 2-0 victory at the JD Stadium at the end of November.

Their first goal since that win inflicted the visitors’ first defeat in four matches, although they will wonder how they managed to end up as the losing side.

Ryan Lowe hit the post with a shot after Murphy had volleyed home a deflected Billy Bingham effort to give the home side the lead.

Bury then had a decent shout for a penalty waved away, with Danny Rose shown a yellow card for a dive in the Dagenham box despite what looked like a shove in the back from defender Ayo Obileye.

Substitute Craig Jones had a shot cleared off the line as Bury threw everything at the hosts in stoppage time, but Dagenham held out to move up two places, from second bottom to 21st, while the Shakers remain in eighth.
