SUMMER signing Shwan Jalal has left Bury by mutual consent, the club has confirmed.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper joined the League Two outfit as their number one stopper after being released by Bournemouth.

But after starting the season opener - a 1-0 defeat at home to Cheltenham - he picked up an injury playing at Bolton Wanderers in the League Cup and fell behind Rob Lainton in the pecking order.

Jalal went on to make just eight appearances as manager David Flitcroft switched between the two keepers.

Both failed to impress and after bringing in Scott Loach on loan in November, the Bury boss said Jalal was free to look for a new club.

Loach's loan deal was cut short after a handful of poor displays, but Jalal never won his place back in the team, falling behind youth keeper Jack Ruddy.

Flitcroft eventually signed 22-year-old Charlton stopper Nick Pope on loan until the end of the season.

And with no apparent clubs interested in taking Jalal, the former Cherries keeper, whose contract was due to run out in June 2016, has reached a deal to have it terminated.

Flitcroft, speaking after Saturday's defeat at Burton, admitted that the club was in negotiations to reach a compromise deal to "end his association with Bury".

"That’s something we’ve been trying to do over the past 48 hours, so I’ll know more on Monday," he said.

“We’re quite happy that we have Nick Pope in the building and that will take us up until the end of the season, what happens beyond that we will have to wait and see.”
