BURY’S players will not let their heads drop after the disappointment of Monday’s 2-1 defeat against Morecambe.

The Shakers let a one-goal lead slip in the final 10 minutes against the Shrimps, but midfielder Andrew Tutte says they will be going all out to force their way back into the automatic promotion race at Newport County on Saturday.

“What happened on Monday was disappointing, but we keep on going and put in a big push these last six games,” said the 24-year-old, after Bury missed the chance to close the gap to third-placed Wycombe to just one point.

“The lads can’t wait to get out there again.

“It’s not like we played bad (against Morecambe). We had control of the game, but missed a lot of chances. If we get the second goal I think it’s game over.

“So the lads have got to stick together. You are going to lose games. We weren’t going to win the final seven games. Monday was a little upset, but we can’t let our heads go. We keep our heads up and go again.”

Saturday’s match at seventh-placed Newport could easily be a dress rehearsal for the League Two play-off semi-finals, yet Tutte believes the team is still perfectly placed to break into the top three.

They go into game fourth in the table, four points behind Wycombe with a game in hand.

“If we win five maybe, who knows?” said the former Rochdale midfielder.

“You don’t know. It’s football, anyone can beat anyone.

“The important thing is that we try to get the three points on Saturday and bounce back like we did after getting beat by Oxford a little while ago.

“If you start looking at the table it is going to start messing with your head. We have just got to pick up points now, starting on Saturday.

“And if we play like we did in the first half (against Morecambe) then we will have a good chance of winning at Newport.”

Manager David Flitcroft expects to have a fully-fit squad for the trip to South Wales, with only full-back Joe Riley missing as he serves the final game of a three-match suspension.

Centre-back Adam El-Abd came through the full 90 minutes on Monday after being carried off with a knee injury at the end of Bury’s 2-0 win at Cambridge on Good Friday.

The Shakers boss, who has been nominated for the League Two manager of the month award for March, also believes defender Jim McNulty (hip) and striker Danny Rose (calf) have a chance of figuring after recovering from injury.
