CHRIS Sedgwick admits he and his Bury team-mates have revenge in mind as they prepare to entertain Shrewsbury in a potentially decisive promotion clash.

Bury went into the reverse fixture in October as League Two leaders but came unstuck, going down 5-0 against Micky Mellon’s side.

The two clubs then enjoyed contrasting fortunes, with Shrewsbury cementing their place in the top three and the Shakers sinking as low as 10th place as they struggled to overcome the heavy defeat.

Manager David Flitcroft eventually steadied the ship and after winning nine of their last 11 games, Bury can seal their place in the League Two play-offs with victory tonight.

Automatic promotion remains the main goal, however, something second-placed Shrewsbury could achieve with all three points.

“It’s a big game because it is the next one, but we owe them one after what happened at their place, that’s an incentive in itself,” said Sedgwick, with more than 1,000 Shrewsbury fans expected to cram into the JD Stadium for what could be a promotion party.

“You don’t want anyone doing it (clinching promotion) on your patch, especially not after what happened at their place because they gave us a good hiding.

“So all the ingredients are there.”

Up until Bury’s shock 2-1 defeat at home to Morecambe on Easter Monday, it looked like there could be even more riding on this fixture.

The Shakers late’ collapse against the Shrimps saw them fall 10 points behind second-placed Shrewsbury, who need just three points from their final four matches to claim promotion.

But third-placed Wycombe are still within touching distance for Bury, who are four points behind them with a game in hand.

And 34-year-old Sedgwick believes his side have what it takes to chase them down in the final games of the season.

“This is going to go to the wire,” he said, after coming on for the final 20 minutes of Saturday’s 2-0 win at play-off chasers Newport.

“We had a five-minute spell (against Morecambe) that’s cost us and you can either let that get to you and get you down or you can bounce back, like we did on Saturday, when we put in a thoroughly good, professional performance.

“I have been in a position where I have been chasing and being chased and it’s not nice being chased down.

“People are expecting things from you, but there is no real pressure on us. We have just got to keep on winning games and see where it takes us.

“They know if they slip up then we are going to be on them.”

Wycombe are at home to play-off hopefuls Exeter tonight, who go into the game on the back of a 4-0 defeat at Shrewsbury.

Bury have no new injury concerns, with centre-back Jim McNulty the only likely absentee with a hip problem.

But right-back Joe Riley is available for selection again after serving a three-match suspension.
