DAVID Flitcroft is hoping to extend Joe Dodoo's loan spell with Bury beyond the current one-month agreement.

The highly-rated winger's impressive start to life at Gigg Lane has seen the 20-year-old put in two man-of-the-match performances in as many games.

And after beating off a number of clubs to secure the youngster's services seven days ago, Flitcroft has approached Leicester City about increasing the deal currently in place.

“I have talked to Leicester on Monday to try to extend it,” the manager explained.

“I think he is in a good place. We have got a good dressing room and I think at Carrington we have got a good environment, we have got good coaches, good people, good leaders and he is in and around some good people.

“I think Leicester recognise that and so hopefully that will have some bearing as we would certainly love to extend it because the fans have took to him and the players have.”

Bury supporters are well aware of the talent Dodoo brings to the squad having netted a hat-trick for Leicester in their Capital Cup victory at Gigg Lane in August.

The winger then went on to score against West Ham in the third round of the competition and made his Premier League debut against Bournemouth.

The pacey wide-man has added depth and quality to a squad that is missing a number of key players through injury, and the loanee has been entrusted with the left-midfield berth, an opportunity, which he has grabbed with both hands.

And the youngster's dazzling debut display against Burton, where he assisted the winning goal, followed by a positive performance against Scunthorpe on Tuesday night has drawn a glowing review from his current boss.

“He has got legs, he has got energy, he has got a function. I have been delighted with him but I expected that,” said the Shakers boss.

"What he has on the ball is magic, the kid has got magic and plays with fantastic enthusiasm.

“Joe puts you on the back-foot with his trickery and the way he glides inside and gets shots off.

“I've been a football fan myself and you want to go and you want to be lit up and you want to be energised when you have done a tough day at work and Joe lifts you.

“When he gets in a game and gets in a stadium he is very positive, inside, outside, on the left, coming in off the right.

“When we played against us for Leicester I saw the smile, I saw his energy, I saw his enthusiasm and love for the game.

"What I didn't really expect is how disciplined and dedicated he is, he is always the first one in.

“We will learn from Joe and get better off what Joe does. He is a really great talent and I am glad we have got him.”

Flitcroft also revealed that winger Chris Eagles is edging closer to full-fitness.

The former Burnley and Bolton man joined on a free transfer last month after being released by Charlton in May and has since made three appearances – two of which came as a substitute.
